The bare essentials with the Stagebug series

A brief reminder and clear overview

StageBug SB-1

The StageBug SB-1 is a compact active direct box designed to fit inside a guitar case for artists who prefer to travel light.

  • Active direct box for acoustic guitar
  • Ultra compact to fit in your guitar case
  • Plug & play easy to use feature set
  • 48V phantom powered, no batteries needed!
Ultra-compact DI

The design begins with standard ¼ instrument input with a thru-put to feed your tuner or your on-stage amp. The ultra-quiet active circuit at once converts the signal from high to low impedance to reduce susceptibility to noise. The signal is then buffered and balanced for long cable runs to the PA system. 48 volt phantom provides the power, so the SB-1 does not require batteries or external supply to make it work. You simply plug in and you are ready to go!

Small size and big performance

The compact design begins with a ¼" input and thru-put to feed the on-stage amp. This connects to the custom made Eclipse ET-DB3 transformer which performs the impedance matching and balances the signal. When using extra high output instruments, a -15dB pad can be inserted into the signal path. This enables the SB-2 to be used with active basses and digital pianos that often tend to overload the input side of the interface. An innovative stereo-to-mono merge function provides a convenient way to connect stereo keyboards and computers without having to reset the source for mono operation, saving time and input channels on the PA. The SB-2 output features an XLR wired to the AES standard with pin-2 hot. Once connected, the SB-2 delivers a smooth warm sound reminiscent of older vintage gear. The Eclipse ET-DB3 transformer is magical in its ability to handle extreme signal levels with a natural compression that is pleasing to the ears. The transformer also helps eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops by isolating the input from the output. This is augmented with a ground lift switch that lifts pin-1 on the XLR for quiet, professional results.

StageBug SB-2 Applications

Plug your acoustic guitar into the SB-2 Passive and it will smooth out the peaks and warm up your tone with a vintage vibe. The compact design makes it perfect for traveling between gigs.

Using the SB-2 with electric bass

Connect your bass to the StageBug SB-2; send the thru signal to your amp and the output to the PA system. Transformer isolation eliminates nasty hum and buzz caused by ground loops.

Using the SB-2 with a keyboard

The Passive SB-2 is a perfect go-to direct box when you need to take the output from a keyboard and send it to the PA system. Input and thru jacks automatically merge the stereo signal to mono to save channels while the SB-2 balances the signal to drive distances of 100 meters (300 feet) without noise!

StageBug SB-4

The Radial StageBug SB-4 is a compact active direct box that has been optimized for use with piezo transducers and is small enough to fit inside an instrument case.

  • Active DI optimized for piezo transducers
  • Smooths out peaks & eliminates squawk
  • Powered by 48V phantom, no batteries required
  • Compact design fits in your instrument case
The perfect companion for piezo instruments

The StageBug SB-4 allows you to retain the natural tone of your piezo-equipped instrument when amplified through a PA system. Unlike typical direct boxes, the SB-4 features a very high 5 meg ohm impedance that smooths out troublesome peaks that give piezo transducers a bad name. This higher impedance also broadens the frequency response for a more natural and pleasing sound. The active circuit balances the audio signal to enable long runs up to 100 meters without loss, while delivering spectacular linearity and low distortion throughout the audio range. Output connections include an aux out for a stage amplifier plus a standard XLR output to feed the PA.

Control feedback on stage

To help eliminate feedback on a live stage, the SB-4 is equipped with a high-pass filter and 180° polarity reverse switch. The high pass filter eliminates excessive bottom end which in turn reduces resonance that can cause the instrument to vibrate. The 180° polarity reverse helps reduce acoustic hot spots on stage by changing the phase relationship between the PA system and room acoustics which can combine at certain frequencies to create peaks.

StageBug SB-4 Applications
Using the SB-4 on classical guitar

Connect your piezo pickup directly to the StageBug SB-4 to get the best tone. No preamp is required! Activate the low-pass filter to eliminate resonance and you are set to go. The SB-4 balances the signal for long runs and smoothes out the peaks for a more natural sounding concert guitar!

Using the SB-4 on dobro

Use the SB-4 with a piezo on your resonator guitar to capture the unique sound of the body. Connect the AUX out to a stage amp if you like and then send the signal to the PA. The SB-4 will help eliminate the mid range squawk and frequency peaks that often force the sound engineer to turn you down in the mix.

Using the SB-4 on upright

Traveling with an upright is expensive! So reducing the size of the ancillary equipment is important. The super compact SB-4 connects from the piezo pickup to the PA and you do not need a preamp in between. The SB-4 delivers a deeper bass and more natural top end, greatly improving your tone through the PA.

StageBug SB-5

The Radial StageBug SB-5 is a compact & portable stereo direct box designed to accommodate laptop computers, tablets, and other consumer audio products when amplifying the signal through a PA system.

  • Isolator for balanced and unbalanced signals
  • Eliminates hum and buzz caused by ground loops
  • Exceptionally linear from 20Hz to 20kHz
  • Automatically configures for hi-Z or lo-Z signal chains
Problem solver for stereo systems

The SB-6 helps remove noise from two channel audio systems, stereo guitar racks, and pedalboards. Two on-board isolation transformers provide a flat frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz, while removing hum and buzz from ground loops. Dual ground lift switches help further reduce noise, and a -15dB pad allows you to handle high volume outputs without distortion. When using the SB-6 before a set of powered speakers or guitar amplifiers, a polarity reverse switch corrects frequency cancellation and ensures both speakers play back in phase with one another. The SB-6 is completely passive with no need for power, so it's easy to insert into any system to remove noise quickly.
