A new perspective on followspotting: Meet Ayrton's Falconer

Ayrton introduces Falconer, a remote followspot control system that lets operators follow the action from a dedicated base station. Combining camera-based operation with physical controls, it retains the feel of a traditional followspot while giving lighting teams more freedom to position the operator.

Follow the action from a new position

Falconer combines a broadcast-style fluid head with two control handles and an 18.5-inch Full HD touchscreen. A camera integrated into a compatible Ayrton fixture, such as EagleStrike, provides the stage view. Operators manually follow performers using the handles, with adjustable drag to suit their preferred response.

Motorised faders, encoders and customisable buttons keep fixture controls within reach. Presets allow operators to recall positions and looks, while the camera’s infrared mode keeps performers visible during dark scenes.

One operator, multiple fixtures

Falconer can control a single moving light or coordinate several fixtures following the same performer. Its 3D calibration uses four reference points to establish each fixture’s position in space. Users can then create groups to select which fixtures follow the action.

The system supports an unlimited patch, with Ayrton recommending up to 36 active fixtures* at a time. It can operate independently or alongside a lighting console, allowing teams to share control of fixture parameters according to the production’s needs.
